Automobile Industries Ltd., the sole distributor of Changan vehicles in Ghana, hosted the media to unveiling of two of its latest SUV models—the Changan Uni-K and Changan X7 Plus—at a high-profile event in Accra on Wednesday, August 13, drawing a crowd of customers, media professionals, and key industry stakeholders.
Held at the company’s showroom near the Obetsebi Lamptey Circle, the launch event highlighted Changan’s growing presence in Ghana’s automotive landscape and showcased the company’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge vehicles tailored for the local market.
In his keynote address, a Senior Sales Consultant Melvin Osei Mensah from Automobile Industries Ltd., reflected on the dramatic growth of Chinese automotive exports.
He noted that global exports from China have risen from 800,000 units five years ago to over 6.5 million vehicles annually. The official attributed this growth to increased global confidence in the quality and reliability of Chinese-made vehicles.
“Automobile Industries Ltd. saw this potential early,” the executive remarked. “Since becoming the exclusive distributor of Changan vehicles in Ghana in 2019, we’ve delivered over 500 units to both individual and corporate customers across the country.”
The highlight of the event was the official reveal of the Changan Uni-K, a 2.0L turbocharged 4WD SUV boasting a modern, streamlined design, lenticular headlights, LED daytime running lights, and a 360° HD camera system. Inside, the Uni-K features premium ergonomic leather seats that promise a comfortable and luxurious driving experience.
Also on display was the Changan X7 Plus, a sportier SUV option equipped with a 1.5L Blue Core turbocharged engine producing 185 horsepower and 300NM of torque. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.23 seconds. With its aggressive mesh grille and bold exterior styling, the X7 Plus was designed to stand out among its peers.
Both vehicles impressed attendees with their high-end aesthetics, advanced safety features, and dynamic performance—attributes the company believes will resonate with Ghanaian consumers seeking a blend of innovation, durability, and style.
Beyond vehicle imports, Automobile Industries Ltd. emphasised its investment in the local industry. The company currently assembles the Changan Hunter pickup locally at its Tema-based facility, aligning with Ghana’s broader industrialisation and job creation goals.
As part of its customer-first approach, the company reaffirmed its commitment to quality after-sales service and announced that all new Changan vehicles sold through its network are backed by a five-year or 100,000-kilometre warranty (whichever comes first), subject to terms and conditions.
The launch concluded with guests exploring the new models up close and receiving information on booking test drives.
With branches in Accra, Tema, Kumasi, and Takoradi, Automobile Industries Ltd. reiterated its dedication to making Changan vehicles accessible across the country.
