The Eastern Regional House of Chiefs has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two Ministers of State and six other public servants, describing the loss as a national tragedy that has shaken the very core of the country.
In a heartfelt statement issued on Friday, August 8 and signed by its President, Nene Sakite II, who is also the Konor of Manya Krobo, the House of Chiefs conveyed its condolences to the President of the Republic, the bereaved families, and the entire nation.
The traditional leaders mourned not only the passing of distinguished sons of the land but also the profound pain and void left in the hearts of their families, colleagues, and the many whose lives they touched through dedicated service to Ghana.
They further offered prayers for comfort and strength for the grieving families and urged Ghanaians to remain united at this moment of collective mourning.
This comes in the aftermath of the August 6 military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of eight people, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; and NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong.
Also among the deceased were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
On Sunday, August 10, Ghanaians paid their final respects to Dr. Murtala Muhammed and Muniru Mohammed. A state funeral for all the victims will be held on Friday, August 15, at the Black Star Square.
