The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 20 new cases of Mpox, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 302 as of July 30, 2025.
This comes just days after the GHS announced Ghana’s first Mpox-related death on July 22, alongside 23 new infections, which at the time raised the total number of confirmed cases to 257.
Health officials say the virus, also known as Monkeypox, continues to spread mainly through close physical contact with infected individuals, including contact with skin lesions, body fluids, or contaminated materials.
In a public notice, the GHS urged the public to be vigilant, avoid close contact with persons showing symptoms, and report any suspected signs of infection to the nearest health facility. The symptoms of Mpox include fever, body aches, and distinctive rashes.
“Protect yourself and others by avoiding close contact with those showing symptoms, and ensure you report any suspected signs to the nearest health facility,” the statement advised.
While most infected individuals recover without complications, the recent fatality has heightened concern among health professionals, especially given the risk the virus poses to children, pregnant women, and individuals with underlying health conditions.
The GHS says early detection and isolation remain the most effective tools in controlling the outbreak. Health authorities are working closely with regional directorates to trace contacts and coordinate the national response.
In addition, the Service is ramping up public education campaigns and urging Ghanaians to rely on verified information sources as part of ongoing efforts to contain the virus.
