A coordinated security operation between Ghanaian and Togolese Security forces has led to the arrest of eight individuals following an attack on a Fulbe settlement in Kongo, a border community in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region.

The attack, which occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, August 2, was reportedly carried out by armed Bimoaba youth and is believed to have been triggered by a land dispute.

Five members of the Fulbe community sustained injuries, including two who are in critical condition. Several homes and food stores were also destroyed during the assault.

In the aftermath of the violence, some victims and attackers fled across the border into Togo. Togolese security personnel responded quickly, rescuing victims and arresting three suspects on their side of the border.

Ghanaian security forces later apprehended five more suspects within the country, bringing the total number of arrests to eight.

One of the injured, Yakubu Barry, commended the swift response of the Togolese forces, stating that their timely intervention prevented a possible cross-border conflict as Fulbe families began mobilising in retaliation.

He urged both governments to ensure justice is delivered and to take steps to prevent future incidents of this nature.
