Commuters along the Chereponi-Wanchiki road have been left stranded following a heavy downpour on the morning of Saturday, August 16.
Floodwaters have cut off access, submerging parts of the road and nearby communities, leaving residents in distress.
Vehicles, motorbikes, and pedestrians were stuck, unable to continue their journey.

Flooding on this road has become an annual occurrence, with repeated appeals to the government for an upgrade yet to yield results.
Some stranded commuters shared their frustrations with Citi News and pleaded with the government to address their concerns.

“We have nowhere to pass to the other side. The whole place is flooded and has left us stranded. The government should help us,” a commuter said.

“The rain started as early as 3 am. Today is Wanchiki market day but people are really struggling to cross to the market side. Government and other philanthropists should come to our aid and put this road in good shape. This is not the first time this has happened. It has been happening every year. The is the second most populated market that can boost the local economy,” Alhassan Abuganu, the former Assemblyman for the area, said.
Meanwhile, several communities in the area have also been flooded, with many residents losing personal property. The Chereponi District, one of the most deprived in the region, continues to grapple with poor infrastructure and limited support.
Efforts to reach local authorities for comment were unsuccessful.
