DVLA to introduce point management system to curb reckless driving

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has indicated that it will soon introduce a point management system to curb driver recklessness on the roads.

Under the system, points will be deducted from drivers’ licences for traffic offences, and once all points are exhausted, affected drivers will be required to return to driving school.

The Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey, disclosed this during a familiarisation visit by Deputy Transport Minister, Dorcas Affo-Tofey, to the authority on Monday, September 29, 2025.

“We can all attest to the fact that we all complain about the bad nature of our road network. But what about the human factor? To prevent that, we will implement the point management system, where if you happen to drive recklessly, we will deduct some points from your overall score. If your point finishes, then we take you back to the driving school.

“…We need to check our drivers on the streets, and for that we have mechanised the compliance system to make it more efficient and effective. Now every regional office has 10 compliance officers,” he said.
