Gov’t to build 50,000-capacity stadium at Borteyman – Kofi Adams

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed plans for a 50,000-capacity stadium at the Borteyman Sports Complex as part of the government’s vision to transform the area into a modern sports city.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Mr. Adams acknowledged the infrastructural challenges confronting Ghana’s sports sector but stressed the government’s commitment to upgrading facilities to international standards.

“We are looking to have a new stadium of that size around our Borteyman Sports Complex. Because we want to elevate that whole space into a sports city or village so that international clubs can come and camp and train there.

“With such a facility, we will also add accommodation. When this is done, in the future, you will not see accommodation for the Black Stars on the national budget. But we are working on a PPP arrangement,” he explained.

He further disclosed that the government is targeting a minimum of 50,000 seats for the new stadium, with completion scheduled before 2028.

“We want to do a minimum of 50,000 in the Borteyman space, and we should be able to finish it before 2028,” he said.

The project, he added, forms part of a broader strategy to establish Ghana as a sports hub in Africa, attract international teams for training camps, and promote sports tourism.
