The Chiefs of Pantang, Danfa, Kweiman, and Otinibi have called on the government to honour its promise of allocating school feeding slots to their communities to manage.
Their appeal follows recent clashes between some caterers in the community and another caterer reportedly contracted by the Regional School Feeding Secretariat over the allocation of contracts under the Ghana School Feeding Programme.
Speaking at a stakeholder meeting, the Chief of Otinibi, Nii Adjei Kwei Jamaica IV, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, expressed disappointment at what he described as neglect of the community in favour of outsiders.
He stressed that chiefs, who represent the interests of the people, cannot continue to be sidelined in decision-making processes.
“When you needed our support, you came humbly. But once it is given, you show us your powers. How can they sit at the Secretariat and dictate to us without consultation? We will not accept it this time. If they bring it 40 times, we will resist 40 times, because our power lies in our thumbs—and in 2028, we shall show them,” he declared.
Nii Adjei Kwei Jamaica IV warned that the chiefs will insist on their community’s 10% share of the programme’s allocation, describing it as a non-negotiable demand.
“Our children do not even enjoy the best education. The little contribution we made, this is what we are asking for—10%, nothing more, nothing less. And we shall maintain that,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly, Ibrahim Faila Fusseini, appealed for calm. He assured the chiefs that their concerns would receive urgent attention.
“I am going back to the Secretariat to discuss this matter in detail. You cannot argue with the chiefs; they decide for you because you once came to them for votes.
Since the creation of this constituency and the municipality, the chiefs have contributed immensely, and they deserve to have their fair share respected,” the MCE stated.
The MCE pledged to liaise with the Regional School Feeding Secretariat to ensure an amicable settlement of the dispute.
