The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has officially launched the 29th edition of its annual media awards, aimed at honouring excellence in journalism across the country.
As part of the launch, two committees, including the awards and planning committees, were inaugurated.
Speaking at the event in Accra on Thursday, October 9, GJA President Albert Dwumfuor emphasised the crucial role journalists play in national development and the preservation of democracy.
“As we launch the 29th GJA Awards today, let’s be reminded that the story of Ghana cannot be written without the voices of her journalists and that our future as a nation depends on the strength, integrity, and patriotism of our media,” he said.
Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, also present at the launch, commended the GJA for sustaining the prestigious awards over the years.
“We intend to do whatever we can to make this year’s celebration a success. Let me also congratulate you for holding the forte and sustaining this event, which has become the most sought after within the journalistic fraternity. It is one event that all journalists look up to.
“It is the one event where excellence in journalistic practice is recognised and celebrated, and for that reason, it spurs on journalists in Ghana to give off their best so that they may also receive such recognition,” he said.
