ASA Savings and Loans has organised a free medical screening exercise for residents of Somanya, offering a range of health services in partnership with medical professionals from the Atua Government Hospital.
The outreach provided eye examinations, hepatitis B and malaria testing, blood pressure checks, typhoid screening, sugar level assessments and general health evaluations for clients, traders and members of the public.
Public health lead at the Atua Government Hospital, Mavis Akpene Ampim, said beneficiaries were advised to prioritise preventive care by maintaining a balanced diet and exercising regularly. She noted that individuals diagnosed with conditions requiring further medical attention were referred to the hospital, with arrangements made to ensure follow-up and continuity of treatment.
Madina Area Manager of ASA, Eugene Owusu Biney, said health screening has become a core component of the company’s corporate social responsibility agenda. He explained that ASA also undertakes tree planting, scholarships and donations to schools as part of its annual CSR interventions.
The Somanya Branch Manager, Awal Fuseini Mohammed, encouraged residents to take advantage of regular medical check-ups. “I sincerely hope that supporting the disadvantaged and providing free healthcare becomes a shared commitment across all sectors,” he said.
For many participants, the exercise offered essential services they would otherwise struggle to access due to financial constraints. “Because I don’t get the opportunity to visit the hospital, I thought it was important to come for this screening, especially since it is free and close to us,” said beneficiary Diana Tettehki.
