Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has led a delegation of government officials to visit the home of 20-year-old Yvonne, one of the victims who lost her life during the stampede at El-Wak Stadium during a military recruitment exercise.
The visit was aimed at offering condolences and support to the bereaved family.
He was accompanied by the Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, and other officials from the Ghana Armed Forces.
Mrs. Momo Lartey conveyed President Mahama’s sympathies to the family and reassured them of the government’s support.
“We just called on Yvonne’s family, one of the victims, so you can see the emotions. We have assured them of His Excellency’s support. We have left the contact with them; they will go to the morgue to identify the body.
This is just the first visit; the MCE and the MP are going to stay in touch with them,” she said.
Deputy Minister Brogya Genfi is expected to visit the families of other victims who perished in the tragedy throughout the day to commiserate with them.
The stampede at El-Wak on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, claimed six lives and left 28 others injured. Five of the injured remain in intensive care, while twelve are in critical condition at the 37 Military Hospital.
In response, the Ghana Armed Forces have suspended the recruitment exercise in Accra until further notice, although similar processes in other regions continue.
