The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Ghana Cedi with a symbolic tree-planting exercise to reinforce the Central Bank’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama, together with senior management and staff, planted the first set of trees at the Bank’s Headquarters on November 20 as part of a wider initiative to plant 60 trees in honour of the Cedi@60 celebration.
He explained that the anniversary offered an opportunity not only to reflect on the evolution of Ghana’s currency but also to contribute to a greener future.
Dr. Asiama noted that the planting exercise signals renewal, resilience and stewardship for the next generation.
The initiative forms part of the broader efforts of the Bank to integrate sustainability into its operations and support national climate agenda.
Staff across various departments joined in the activity as a shared sense of responsibility for environmental protection.
In addition to the Governor’s participation, the First Deputy Governor, Dr. Zakari Mumuni and the Second Deputy Governor, Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, also planted commemorative trees at other Bank of Ghana facilities, marking the institutional drive to promote ecological preservation as the Cedi marks six decades.
