The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has condemned a violent assault captured in a viral social media video, in which a man—reportedly a landlord—is seen physically attacking a woman alleged to be his wife.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 17, the Ministry described the incident as “barbaric,” stressing that no individual has the right to subject another person to any form of abuse under any circumstance. It said the act violates the rights of the victim and is punishable by law.

The Ministry announced that the sector Minister has contacted the Ghana Police Service to ensure a thorough investigation and to guarantee that justice is served. It also encouraged eyewitnesses with relevant information to assist law enforcement authorities.

MoGCSP noted that domestic and sexual violence remains a national concern and urged the public to promptly report such cases.

“We reaffirm our commitment to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders in ensuring that perpetrators of domestic violence face the full rigours of the law,” the ministry said in a statement issued by its Public Affairs Unit.

The Ministry also called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of abuse through the Domestic Violence Call Centre on 0800-111-222 or the Ministry’s Helpline of Hope call centre on 0800-800-800 / 0800-900-900, or to the nearest police station.
