The Station Manager of the Ghana National Ambulance Service at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Jafar Abdulai, has expressed satisfaction with the second day of the ongoing military recruitment exercise, describing it as calm and orderly with no major incidents.
Speaking to Citinews on Thursday, November 13, Abdulai attributed the smooth operations to effective planning by officials and a reduced number of applicants, noting that those applying for the Navy and Air Force are scheduled to report on Saturday.
“Unlike yesterday’s session, which saw minor stampedes resulting in five people sustaining injuries and receiving medical attention, today’s exercise has been incident-free,” he said.
Abdulai added that the improvements stem from better organisation, including grouping applicants according to designated signs, which has helped prevent overcrowding.
“The Navy and the Air Force will be coming on Saturday, and because of that, the numbers have really reduced. The arrangement today is far better. We have just two people who reported with a headache and ankle injury, and yesterday someone also came with hand pain, but we do not have any major issues for today,” he explained.
However, the Ghana Armed Forces has suspended the exercise in Accra until further notice, following the tragic incident at El-Wak, which claimed six lives, with 28 others injured. Five of the injured remain in intensive care, while twelve are in critical condition at the 37 Military Hospital.
