Unemployed environmental health officers and assistants have taken to the streets to protest years of unemployment and what they describe as sustained neglect by the state.
The demonstrators are demanding immediate employment, postings, and formal recognition for trained environmental health officers, assistants, and graduates of the School of Hygiene.
The protest began at Independence Square on Monday, December 15, and is scheduled to pass through the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Local Government before concluding at Flagstaff House.
Speaking to Citi News during the protest, Gloria Apam, one of the demonstrators, expressed deep frustration over the prolonged lack of opportunities.
“We are not giving up; we have to be posted. We are tired, please post us now. We are tired of staying at home. If you know our profession is not needed, then close the school,” she said.
