The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for West Gonja, Yakubu Yussif, has cut the sod for two key development projects at Achulokura and Wawato, aimed at improving access to healthcare and education in the municipality.
The projects comprise the construction of a CHPS compound with nurses’ accommodation at Achulokura and a three-unit classroom block at Wawato.
Speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday, December 30, Mr Yussif noted that the new classroom block will end the long journey pupils currently undertake to Soalepe, a distance of about nine kilometres, to access basic education
“No child should have to walk such a long distance to school,” he said, reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to community development.
He further explained that the CHPS compound forms part of a pledge made by former NDC parliamentary candidate, Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, and is expected to significantly improve access to primary healthcare services for residents.
The contractor for the projects, Mr Ningani Zakaria of SamFori Company Limited, assured stakeholders of quality workmanship and pledged to complete the projects within four months.
