Samuel Abu Jinapor, Member of Parliament for Damongo and a member of the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia campaign team, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ensure a peaceful, fair and orderly conduct of its presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31.

His appeal comes as the party prepares for a keenly contested primary, with former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Ing. Kwabena Agyepong vying for the flagbearer position.

Speaking on The Point of View on Monday, January 26, Jinapor said the behaviour of party members on the day of the election would have long-term implications for the party.

“How the NPP conducts itself on Saturday, January 31st, will have far-reaching implications for the fortunes or the forward march of the party,” he said. “If we, as it should be, can conduct a peaceful, fair, orderly, decorous election on Saturday, January 31st, that will be another major step towards the revival of the NPP.”

Meanwhile, the National Youth Organiser of the party, Salam Mustapha, has also urged members to moderate their language and place party unity above all else, cautioning that verbal attacks could worsen divisions even after the peace pact signed by the aspirants.

He stressed the importance of reconciliation after the primary and encouraged supporters to channel their energies into rebuilding the party ahead of the next general elections.

“I pray and hope that we will all, post-January 31, seek genuine reconciliation and build a united, stronger party fit for purpose to take on the NDC,” he said in an interview on the Channel One Newsroom.
