Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Dr. William Amankra Appiah, has stressed the need to actively involve young people in decisions affecting education delivery.
According to him, the energies of the youth, their creativity and prospectives were crucial in creating an education system that empowered individuals and transformed societies.
Speaking at the 2026 celebration of the International Day of Education at Feyiase in the Bosomtwe District, Dr Appiah pointed out that the involvement of young people in decision making in education would make them relevant to society.
He mentioned the Otumfuo Education Fund as one of the interventions that had transformed education in the Ashanti Region and beyond and called on all stakeholders to take keen interest in education to enhance quality delivery.
On his part, the Feyiasehene, Nana Addai Gyamera said the future of education should not be delivered to young people but must be built with them. This, he emphasised, will ensure the youth sustains what they have built and improve upon them in the future.
This year’s celebration was on the theme: “The Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education. “
Nana Gyamera noted that the future of the youth was not only about classroom, examination and certificates, but with innovation and possibilities.
He reiterated that young people are co-creators to education and leaders in formation, adding that children are now taught not only to pass examination but also prepared to be custodians of the nation and improve upon what they inherit.
Madam Elaine Oppong Peprah, Administrator of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, pledged the Foundation‘s commitment to support education and help nurture children to be innovative and agents of change.
She called on stakeholders to not relent on supporting to nurture the next generation.
Mr Kwaku Oppong Amponsah, Chief Executive of Adwinsa Publications, donated 2,500 assorted reading books to the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation to support education delivery.
