The campaign team of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has rejected what it describes as “baseless, uninformed, and unwarranted” personal attacks by fellow New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of Campaign Communications, Nana Akomea, and issued on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the Bawumia Campaign expressed concern over a recent video message by Kennedy Agyapong in which he allegedly accused Dr. Bawumia of making comments about the health status of the late Albert Adu Boahen and a supposed decision not to participate in the 1996 NPP presidential primaries.

According to the campaign, the claims attributed to Dr. Bawumia are false.

“For absolute clarity, Dr. Bawumia has never made the statements that have been attributed to him,” the statement said, challenging Mr. Agyapong to produce video or audio evidence to support his allegations.

The campaign further criticised Mr. Agyapong for branding Dr. Bawumia a liar and questioning his suitability for leadership, describing such remarks as unfair and damaging to party unity.

“In our political discourse, accuracy matters. Words also matter. Wrongful attributions have the potential to unnecessarily mislead the public and inflame tensions within our party,” the statement noted.

The Bawumia Campaign has called on Mr. Agyapong to issue an immediate apology to the Vice President for the claims made against him.

The statement stressed that Dr. Bawumia believes political leadership must be exercised with truthfulness, decorum, and restraint, without resorting to personal insults or inflammatory language.

“As leaders, we must always state our views devoid of tantrums and personal insults while maintaining truthfulness, decorum, and restraint at all times,” it added.
