An Adenta Circuit Court has remanded three commercial drivers into police custody for allegedly robbing a female passenger of her iPhone 14 at knifepoint.

The accused persons, identified as Charles Kofi Nti, Richard Osei, and Lawrence Sosu, have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, namely robbery, and robbery.

The court, presided over by Mrs Angela Attachie, did not take their pleas and ordered that they be remanded into police custody. They are to reappear before the court on January 29, 2026.

Prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, prayed the court to preserve the pleas of the accused persons to allow for further investigations.

According to the prosecution, the complainant, Charity Akweley Ayitey, resides at Nanakrom near Ashalley Botwe in Accra. The first accused, Charles Kofi Nti, resides at Amasaman, the second accused, Richard Osei, lives at Pokuase, while the third accused, Lawrence Sosu, resides at Kasoa.

The prosecution told the court that on November 18, 2025, at about 8:30 a.m., the complainant was on her way to work when she boarded a taxi from Adenta Third Gate to Adenta Aviation Pharmacy.

The taxi, a yellow-and-black Toyota Vitz with registration number GW 6612-25, was being driven by the first accused, with the second and third accused as passengers.

According to the prosecution, upon reaching Adenta Aviation Pharmacy, where the complainant intended to alight, the accused allegedly drove past the location to the next junction despite her request to stop.

It was further alleged that the driver locked the door and asked the complainant to force it open, claiming it was faulty. The prosecution said the second accused then pulled out a knife and demanded the complainant’s iPhone 14 mobile phone, which she handed over out of fear.

After taking the phone, the accused persons allegedly sped off.

The complainant later reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused persons following investigations.

The prosecution told the court that in their respective caution statements, the accused persons admitted to the offence.
