The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting incident at the Odupongkpehe Polling Centre in Kasoa during the 2024 general election.
The suspect, Mujahid Suraj also known as Mims went into hiding after discharging a pump action gun injuring a voter.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to Citi News at the time the incident occurred narrated that he had targeted Tamimu Tanko, a constituency executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but he failed the shot and rather caused injury to a man who had visited the center to take part in voting.
While some linked the incident to politics, others linked it to an existing feud between the suspect and the main target of the attack, Tamimu.
The suspect, Suraj, was arrested on the night of Saturday, January 17, by the Kasoa Divisional Command following intelligence gathering that he had returned to his residence at the Odupongkpehe Zongo in Kasoa.
Sources within the police have confirmed the arrest to Citi News, adding that the suspect has been placed under investigation and will subsequently face prosecution.
