The Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into a fatal shooting incident involving a policewoman that occurred on Monday, January 19, 2026, near Tetegu in the Weija area.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 20, the Police said preliminary findings indicate that the officer allegedly shot a taxi driver following a confrontation. The victim, who was operating a Hyundai i10 taxi cab, was rushed to the Police Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The statement further disclosed that events at the scene escalated after the shooting, leading to the policewoman sustaining serious injuries. According to investigators, she was struck by a vehicle as she attempted to leave the area, resulting in injuries to her head and both legs.
Police confirmed that the injured officer is currently in admission and receiving medical treatment.
As part of the ongoing investigation, officers retrieved key exhibits from the scene, including one live 9mm round, a magazine, and an empty 9mm cartridge.
The Police Service assured the public that further updates will be communicated as more details emerge.
