Member of Parliament for the Korle Klottey Constituency, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has charged political leaders and stakeholders to take responsibility for safeguarding girls’ education by ensuring access to proper menstrual health care.
She made the call while addressing a menstrual health education and reusable pad distribution programme organised by the Yevu Foundation on Wednesday, January 28.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings described limited access to sanitary products as a societal failure that exposes young girls to trauma and school absenteeism. She stressed that menstruation is a normal part of life and should never stand in the way of education or personal development.
The MP praised the initiative for promoting reusable pads alongside education, noting that the approach offers a sustainable and practical way of empowering girls to manage their menstrual health.
“So this is an initiative that puts that power back in your hands. That means that you can take control when it’s that time of the month. And what I really appreciate is the fact that a lot of education is going along with the use of these cards because with anything, if you don’t keep it clean, you increase your risk of infection,” she said.
