David Mensah Odoom has been elected Presiding Member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA). The Assembly Member for the New Nsuta “Auntie Bee” Electoral Area won the position in a decisive and widely endorsed vote.

Mr. Odoom secured 24 out of 27 valid votes, while Solomon Amoako Acheampong, the Assembly Member for Anyinam Electoral Area, received 3 votes.

There were no spoiled ballots in what was described as a smooth and transparent election process.

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly comprises 19 elected Assembly Members, 9 government appointees, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and the Member of Parliament, who does not have voting rights in the election of the Presiding Member.

Two members were absent and did not participate, bringing the total membership to 30.

In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Odoom expressed profound gratitude to his colleagues for their confidence and acknowledged the support of the Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Faustilove Appiah Kannin; the Municipal Coordinating Director; the outgoing Presiding Member; and the electorate of New Nsuta “Auntie Bee.”

He called for unity among Assembly Members, urging them to work collaboratively to advance the Municipality’s development agenda.

“I have come to serve and not to be served,” he emphasized, reiterating his commitment to selfless leadership and inclusive governance.

As part of his immediate priorities, Mr. Odoom outlined plans to renovate the Assembly Hall to create a more conducive environment for deliberations.

He also proposed displaying portraits of past Presiding Members in the hall to honour their service and preserve the Assembly’s institutional memory.

Addressing the Assembly, MCE Honourable Faustilove Appiah Kannin congratulated the newly elected Presiding Member and called for collaboration, unity, and dedication from all members in addressing the Municipality’s pressing needs.

She emphasised that development is a shared responsibility and reaffirmed the Assembly management team’s commitment to delivering on its mandate.

David Mensah Odoom was formally sworn into office by His Worship Kofi Wusu Sekyere, marking the official start of his tenure as Presiding Member.
