Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called for the publication of petitions seeking the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa, and her deputies.
His appeal follows a statement from the Presidency indicating that Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie ruled there was no prima facie case to warrant further action on the petitions filed against the EC Chairperson, her deputies, and the Special Prosecutor.
Speaking on Citi Prime News on Wednesday, February 18, Kpebu noted that his own petition for the removal of the Special Prosecutor has not yet been determined.
He argued that making the petitions public would allow Ghanaians to assess their contents fairly and participate in the discussion objectively, instead of relying on speculation and partisan interpretations.
“After that, let’s publish the petitions, so the public can comment too. Otherwise, it will just be based on people’s beliefs and biases. Without seeing the petitions, you cannot comment,” he said.
A statement issued on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said President John Dramani Mahama referred seven petitions seeking the removal of the EC Chairperson, her deputies, and Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng to the Chief Justice for a prima facie determination.
The petitions, forwarded on November 25, 2025, were filed under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 15 of Act 959.
In a response dated January 26, 2026, the Chief Justice said the petitions did not establish a prima facie case to warrant further proceedings.
