Asanko Gold Ghana LTD has signed a $400 million, four-year contract with Rabotec Engineering and Construction to deepen local participation in its mining operations while boosting employment and skills development in line with Ghana’s local content agenda.
According to the company, the agreement marks “a new phase” in its long-standing relationship with the Ghanaian-owned mining services firm and reflects a strategic move to retain more value within the local economy.
Speaking at the signing, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Asanko Gold Ghana Limited, Dr. Charles Amoah, described the deal as more than a routine commercial arrangement.
“This is not simply a contract. It reflects a clear business decision that supports Ghana’s Local Content agenda and retains more value within the country,” he stated.
He added that the partnership is fundamentally aimed at strengthening Ghanaian capacity within the mining value chain.
“Fundamentally, this is about creating jobs, building skills, and strengthening Ghanaian businesses to operate at the scale and standard this industry demands,” Dr. Amoah said.
Under the arrangement, Asanko expects to support approximately 3,000 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect jobs, while expanding local participation across its supply chain.
“Through this partnership with Rabotec, we are advancing that approach by creating employment, strengthening local capability, and building skills that will sustain livelihoods well beyond this contract — not just participation, but capability. Not just jobs, but skills that endure,” he emphasized.
Dr. Amoah noted that Rabotec’s track record over more than a decade of working with the Asanko Gold Mine informed the decision to scale up the partnership.
“Rabotec has been a partner to this operation for over 11 years, demonstrating the ability to meet the standards required on safety, execution, and reliability. This reinforces our confidence that local companies can perform at the level this industry demands,” he added.
On his part, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Rabotec Ghana Limited, Alhaji Ali Ibrahim, said the contract reflects years of consistent performance and growing capacity by the indigenous firm.
“Today formalises a partnership built on years of delivery, discipline, and proven capability — reflecting how far we’ve come as partners, and what is now expected of us,” he noted.
He highlighted the company’s growth trajectory, from handling smaller scopes of work to executing large-scale mining services.
“That journey has shaped who we are today; a company capable of operating at the level this industry demands,” he said.
Alhaji Ibrahim stressed that the agreement will further expand opportunities for Ghanaians through employment and skills development.
“Beyond operations, this partnership is also about people. It creates opportunities for employment and for skills to be built skills that allow individuals to grow within the industry and support their livelihoods over time,” he stated.
He also underscored Rabotec’s commitment to local content, revealing that the company has spent over $8 million on local suppliers in the past two years and maintains a fully Ghanaian workforce.
“This new partnership provides an opportunity to build on that foundation to expand employment, deepen skills development and increase community impact,” he added.
Both companies say the deal will not only strengthen operational efficiency at the Asanko Gold Mine but also drive broader economic activity across host communities through enterprise growth and sustained local investment.
