A total of 751 young people in the Sagnarigu Municipality have received start-up kits under the government’s Business in a Box (BizBox) Project, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and job creation.

The initiative, a partnership between the Ghana Enterprises Agency and the Mastercard Foundation, forms part of a four-year programme designed to create 250,000 dignified jobs for Ghanaian youth, with a strong focus on women and persons with disabilities.

The beneficiaries were equipped with tools across various trades, including rice processing, food and fruit juice processing, auto mechanics, auto electricals, general electricals, masonry, carpentry, plumbing, barbering, and painting.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony, the Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, Abdullai Imoro Gong, highlighted the importance of skills development in tackling unemployment and driving economic growth in the municipality.

He expressed optimism that the initiative would help reduce poverty, boost local industries, and empower young people to establish sustainable businesses.

The Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, said the initiative aligns with the government’s broader agenda to provide decent sources of income for citizens. He noted that the private sector remains largely untapped and offers significant opportunities for the youth to deliver essential services.

“It is part of the government’s agenda to provide decent jobs and ensure that the untapped private sector is utilised by the youth in delivering needed services,” he said.

Beneficiaries were encouraged to make effective use of the skills and equipment provided to build sustainable livelihoods, create employment opportunities, and contribute to community development.
