The strike by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) is in full swing, causing significant disruptions as residents seeking public services are being turned away.
At the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, members have abandoned their posts, with several offices locked and routine activities brought to a halt. The industrial action comes amid protests over what the association describes as prolonged delays in the implementation of agreed conditions of service.
The strike continues despite a directive from the National Labour Commission ordering CLOGSAG to suspend its industrial action and return to the negotiation table.
However, the association maintains that it has not received any official communication from the government since issuing the strike notice, and its members remain steadfast in demanding their entitlements.
Residents affected by the shutdown expressed frustration. One individual seeking permission for a funeral tol Citi News on Monday, March 9, that, “The ground for the funeral is on the street, so I came here to seek permission before we proceed. But when I arrived, I realised nothing was going on, and I was told they are on strike.”
Another person attempting to obtain a health certificate added, “I came here for a health certificate but was told they are on strike, so I am going back. Without the certificate, I cannot proceed with my food product registration at the FDA, and that worries me a lot.”
