Obrempong Dr. Okoh Agyemang Boakye II, Chief of Techire in the Tano North Municipality in the Ahafo Region, has urged families to reduce excessive spending on funerals and weddings, warning that such practices often strain household finances.
Speaking during the Municipal celebration of Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary held at Techire on March 6, the chief encouraged families to channel their resources into the education of their children to secure a better future.
“Education remains key to life’s success. Families have a major responsibility in ensuring quality education for their children,” he said, while urging schoolchildren to take their studies seriously. He also expressed concern about the rising incidence of school dropouts in the municipality.
Madam Diana Koranteng, the Techire Circuit Officer of the School Improvement Support, highlighted challenges in several schools, including the lack of adequate furniture and textbooks.
She appealed to the government to provide the necessary support to enhance teaching and learning, and commended the chief for his continuous efforts and contributions toward improving education in the area.
