Transitions Funeral Home Services has launched the Seed of Life initiative, a memorial programme designed to help families honour departed loved ones while contributing to environmental sustainability.
The initiative was unveiled on Tuesday, March 10, at the transitions premises in Accra and will see families receive seedlings to plant in memory of their deceased relatives.
Speaking at the launch, the general manager of Transitions, Genevieve Cornelius, said the initiative symbolises the transition between life and death while preserving the legacy of those who have passed.
“We launched this Seed of Life initiative to signify the transition between life and death. When our loved ones pass, we say goodbye, but we believe they are transitioning to another place,” she said.
She explained that families will plant and nurture a tree at a place of their choice, such as their home, village or church, as a living reminder of their loved one.
“This Seed of Life, which is a Tree of Life, will grow with them, having a remembrance of the legacy of the one they had said goodbye to,” she added.
Cornelius noted that beyond remembrance, the initiative will also support environmental protection as more trees are planted across communities.
Also speaking at the event, Slyia Vuvor, Board Administrator, Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency, commended the initiative and described it as a meaningful step for the funeral services sector.
“The Seed of Life initiative is a beautiful concept. By planting trees in memory of departed loved ones, this initiative transforms remembrance into something meaningful and enduring,” she said.
According to her, such initiatives show that funeral services go beyond managing loss to creating meaningful avenues for remembrance and healing.
She added that MOFFA supports programmes that promote dignity, innovation and sustainability within Ghana’s funeral services industry.
