The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, and the Sunyani East Communication Officer of the party, Abubakar Yakubu, also known as Baba Amando, have been granted bail by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

Abronye DC was picked up by police over alleged threats directed at a presiding judge at the Adenta Circuit Court, while Baba Amando was arrested for alleged false publication.

Addressing journalists after their release in Accra on Monday April 13, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin urged the police to exercise tolerance in the discharge of their duties.

The National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye speaking to journalists also described the arrests as a deliberate attempt by the government to divert the attention of Ghanaians from what he calls its abysmal performance.

He argued that the government is under mounting pressure due to unfulfilled promises, including the passage of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, tackling unemployment, reducing the cost of doing business at the ports, and executing the ORAL agenda.

According to him, this pressure has led to the alleged harassment of members of the opposition party.
