President John Dramani Mahama has stated that Artificial Intelligence (AI) must enhance human capabilities and not diminish human dignity.
He assured Ghanaians that the government’s approach to Artificial Intelligence will prioritise workers, amid concerns about potential job losses and the future of work.
Speaking at the launch of the National AI Strategy on Friday, April 24, the President acknowledged widespread fears that AI could displace workers and leave many vulnerable.
He, however, emphasised that the government is committed to addressing these concerns and ensuring that AI is used to enhance, rather than undermine, human potential.
“I am aware that the rapid advancement of AI raises legitimate concerns, particularly about jobs and the future of work. Many citizens worry that machines will replace human labour, leaving workers vulnerable and excluded,” he said.
“As a responsible government, we take these concerns seriously. A simple principle will guide our approach: AI must enhance human capabilities and not diminish human dignity,” he added.
President Mahama noted that Ghana will adopt a human-centred, inclusive, and responsible model for AI development—one that balances efficiency with resilience, sustainability, and respect for human dignity.
He stressed that government policy will focus on using AI as a tool to strengthen human capabilities, not replace them.
“We will pursue a human-centred, inclusive and responsible model of adoption consistent with industry values, emphasising not only efficiency but also resilience, sustainability and the centrality of the human person,” he assured.
