The Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) has held the maiden edition of the Ghana TVET Excellence Awards, aimed at celebrating outstanding achievements in skills development, innovation, and industry collaboration.
The event, themed “Celebrating Outstanding Skills, Innovation and Industry Partnerships,” took place on Tuesday, April 14, at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra, bringing together key stakeholders in the technical and vocational education sector.
Speaking at the ceremony, Director-General of CTVET, Zakaria Sulemana, emphasised the importance of aligning skills development with national standards and industry demands.
“To align with the Commission’s regulatory framework, as we collectively seek to uphold the integrity and relevance of skills development in Ghana,” he stated.
He noted that the long-term success of the TVET system hinges on strong collaboration between training institutions and industry, sustained investment, and deliberate support for both instructors and learners.
“The Commission recognises that the sustainability of the TVET system depends on strong industry partnerships, sustained investment in training institutions, and deliberate support for instructors and learners,” he added.
The awards scheme is designed to highlight excellence across TVET institutions, students, trainers, and industry facilitators who demonstrate exceptional commitment to skills development.
The initiative also seeks to promote innovation in technical training by encouraging creative teaching and practical problem-solving approaches, while strengthening collaboration between academia and industry to meet labour market needs.
Additionally, the awards aim to encourage high-quality competency-based training and advance gender inclusion by increasing the participation and recognition of women in technical and traditionally male-dominated fields.
The Ghana TVET Excellence Awards are expected to become a flagship platform for recognising talent and driving reforms within Ghana’s skills development ecosystem.
