DTI honours Kufuor with Entrepreneurship Centre to drive industrial growth

Ghana’s push for industrialisation and enterprise development is receiving a symbolic boost with the naming of a new entrepreneurship hub after former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

The Design and Technology Institute has announced that its entrepreneurship centre at the Berekuso campus will be known as the “J. A. Kufuor Centre for Entrepreneurship”, in recognition of his long-standing support for private sector-led growth.

Founder of the Institute, Constance Swaniker, says the decision goes beyond symbolism, positioning the centre as a practical engine for business creation, job generation, and industrial transformation.

The facility forms part of a larger multi-skills campus expected to train thousands of young people annually, with a strong focus on entrepreneurship, technical skills, and industry-driven innovation.

According to her, the centre will serve as a pipeline for building sustainable businesses, especially among young people, helping to address unemployment while strengthening Ghana’s productive base.

The move also reinforces calls for deeper private sector participation in skills development, as Ghana seeks to transition from a raw-material exporting economy to one anchored in manufacturing and value addition.

The naming is being positioned as a “living legacy”, with success to be measured not by recognition, but by the number of businesses created and jobs sustained.
