The National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) has refuted claims by the Minority in Parliament that it has secured a GH¢700 million loan facility to finance Phase Two of its proposed headquarters project.
The allegations were raised by the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, during a press conference on Thursday, April 16.
At the briefing, the MP accused the NPRA of engaging in what he described as unlawful borrowing and called for the immediate suspension of the purported loan arrangement.
According to Mr. Assafuah, the alleged facility, reportedly amounting to GH¢700 million, was being contracted on the back of pension contributors, raising concerns about transparency, accountability, and the potential misuse of pension-related funds.
However, in a swift response, the NPRA dismissed the claims as inaccurate and misleading, insisting that no such borrowing has taken place.
In a statement issued to clarify the situation, the NPRA provided details about the status of the headquarters project and the processes surrounding its development.
Addressing the progress of the project, the NPRA explained that construction of Phase One is still ongoing and has not reached completion, making any claims about moving into or expanding the facility premature.
The Authority stated that “Phase 1 of the project is still under construction and has not yet been completed. On Phase 2 of the head office, it is worth noting that the project design and scope of work predates the appointment of Mr. Boadi-Mensah.”
In addressing the central allegation, the NPRA categorically denied securing any such loan facility, stressing that the claims lack factual basis.
It added that “the allegation that GH¢700 million has been borrowed on the back of pension contributors to build the Phase 2 office complex is completely false.”
