Former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has, through his lawyers, disclosed plans to initiate legal action against the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over what he describes as an unlawful entry into his residence at Atonsu in the Ashanti Region.
The raid reportedly occurred on Tuesday, April 15, when officers from EOCO stormed the property while Mr Jumah was not present.
According to sources, the officers presented documents indicating they were at the residence to conduct a search as part of official duties.
The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, confirmed the development in an interview with Citi News on Wednesday, April 15.
He revealed that a formal complaint has been lodged at the Asokwa Divisional Police Command, while Mr. Jumah’s legal team is also taking steps to sue EOCO over the incident.
Yandoh criticised the operation, accusing state agencies of abusing their powers.
“There is an arrogance of power being displayed. They do whatever they want and what they feel like. We are not expecting anything from them. So we are going to test the law and see what happens because it is becoming one too many.
“Anybody, in the name of national security or a state agency, will just come to your home and do whatever they want. We want to test the law and see the next action,” he said.
