President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of an interconnecting concourse between Terminals 2 and 3 at Accra International Airport, marking the start of a major infrastructure expansion aimed at easing congestion and strengthening Ghana’s position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Mahama said the project goes beyond symbolism, describing it as a strategic investment in efficiency, passenger experience, and the country’s long-term economic future.

He noted that passenger traffic has increased steadily from 1.8 million in 2022 to 2.5 million in 2025, reflecting Ghana’s growing connectivity and appeal as a travel destination.
Despite the gains, the President highlighted mounting operational pressures, particularly during peak hours, where congestion continues to affect key airport services. He stressed the need for urgent interventions to sustain efficiency and service delivery.

The new concourse, when completed, will feature modern passenger boarding bridges, upgraded waiting areas, VIP lounges, retail outlets, and improved service infrastructure to enable seamless movement between terminals and enhance overall airport operations.
