Yaw Omane Boamah, son of the late Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has earned international recognition after excelling in a highly competitive national mathematics and science programme.

According to a Facebook post by Ghana International School (GIS) on Friday, April 17, the 2026 MISE journey brought together more than 600 students from over 100 schools, with participants gradually narrowed down through several stages to six national finalists.

Qi Wang

Among the standout performers were Qi Wang and Yaw Omane Boamah, both of GIS, who have been selected to represent Ghana at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).

Qi Wang emerged as the first-best overall in the competition, marking a strong performance for the school.

Beyond the Olympiad qualification, both students also participated in the demanding MISE Research Programme, which the school described as an advanced academic track involving graduate-level mathematical work.

Their performance in the programme earned them finalist positions and selection for the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).

The school described their achievement as a journey across “two global stages” and praised the students, their coach, Mr. Sowah, and their parents for their support.

“This achievement is a shared victory. Ghana’s future is bright. And it’s only just beginning,” the post added.
