Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has praised renowned lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata for his contribution to Ghana’s legal development, saying his career offers important lessons for the legal profession.

Speaking at the UPSA Law School Honorific Lecture and Award ceremony in Accra on Wednesday, April 15, the Chief Justice said Tsikata’s professional journey demonstrates that true success in law goes beyond personal achievement.

He explained that the value of a legal career should be measured by its contribution to justice and the strengthening of national institutions.

“The career of Mr Tsikata offers important lessons. It teaches us that professional success is best measured not solely by personal achievement but by the extent to which one’s work contributes to the advancement of justice and the strengthening of institutions,” he said.

He added that the effectiveness of the law depends on strong ethical principles and intellectual discipline.

“It reminds us that the law is most effective when guarded by ethical conviction and intellectual discipline,” he noted.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie also commended the UPSA Law School for recognising individuals who have made significant contributions to Ghana’s legal tradition, describing such recognition as important for sustaining professional standards.

“On behalf of the judiciary I commend the UPSA law school for recognising individuals whose work has enriched Ghana’s tradition. Such recognition strengthens the values that sustain our profession and reinforces the standards to which we must continually aspire,” he said.

He further highlighted Tsikata’s influence on constitutional law, legal scholarship, and advocacy, describing his impact as lasting and significant.

“Mr Tsatsu Tsikata your contribution to the law have left an indelible mark on Ghana’s landscape. Your work has helped shape the contours of constitutional debate and rich legal scholarship and strengthened the practice of advocacy. The respect you command across the legal community is a reflection of a lifetime devoted to the pursuit of legal excellence,” he added.
