The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has confirmed the death of two members of its academic community following a fatal road accident at Third Ridge Junction on the Accra–Cape Coast Highway.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 28, UCC Management said it received with “profound shock and deep sorrow” the passing of Dr Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, and his teaching assistant, Mr Peter Amoadu-Asmah.

According to the university, the two lost their lives in the tragic crash, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday and involved a Toyota Corolla and a HOWO tipper truck.

The accident also left five other persons injured, who were subsequently transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Dr Agyemang was described as a dedicated academic and a highly respected member of the university, known for his contributions to teaching, research, and service.

“His invaluable contributions and presence will be deeply missed by colleagues, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him,” the statement said.

Mr Amoadu-Asmah, a National Service person, was a recent graduate of the same department and had distinguished himself academically as the overall best graduating student.

The university extended its condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them of its support during the difficult period.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time,” the statement added.

UCC also urged the public, particularly the media, to exercise sensitivity in reporting on the incident.
