Beach road contractors get two-month deadline on Kingdom Books stretch

Municipal Chief Executive for La Dade-Kotopon, Alfredos Anyetei, has directed contractors working on the La Beach Road to complete a key stretch of the project within two months to ease persistent traffic congestion on the corridor.

Speaking to Citi News during a tour of ongoing road works from Tse Addo High Street to the La Beach Road, the MCE said the project, which stalled after Ghana entered the Debt Exchange Programme, has resumed with contractors back on site.

Alfredos Anyetei said the stretch from the current construction point to the Kingdom Books area is expected to be asphalted within the timeline to improve traffic flow and reduce air pollution affecting residents.

He also disclosed that traffic lights will be installed on the stretch after completion to help reduce speeding and prevent fatal knockdowns.

The MCE further disclosed that drainage and inner road rehabilitation works are ongoing in Tse Addo and will later be extended to other parts of the municipality.

“The road that starts from Nungua Barrier through Teshie to Osu through to the Independence Arch stalled when the DDEP came and so we have not had any contractor on site for a while. But we got help from the Urban Roads to prepare the Kpeshie bridge and they are currently working around the Olympia stretch.

“The construction works cause a lot of congestion and air pollution which affect a lot of the residents here. The president was here to inspect the La General Hospital and saw the situation and has instructed for the road to be done.

“I met the contractors on site and asked them to finish the Kingdom Books stretch in two months.”
