Four candidates sitting for the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been caught engaging in examination malpractice at the Accra Girls Senior High School centre.

The incident, which reportedly involved the exchange of examination papers among the candidates, was uncovered during supervision at the centre.

The development came to light during a monitoring visit by the Head of the Ghana National Office of the West African Examinations Council, Dr. (Mrs) Rosemond Wilson.

Speaking to journalists after assessing activities at the centre, Dr. Wilson confirmed the incident and indicated that it would be thoroughly investigated.

According to her, the council takes issues of examination malpractice very seriously, as such actions undermine the credibility and integrity of the entire assessment system.

She noted that while the BECE is a critical milestone in the academic journey of students, it must be conducted under strict conditions that ensure fairness for all candidates.
