President John Dramani Mahama has announced that holders of African passports travelling to Ghana for business or tourism will no longer pay visa fees when applying through the country’s newly launched e-visa platform.

Speaking during the official launch of the e-visa platform on Monday, May 25, President Mahama said the policy takes immediate effect as part of efforts to ease travel within the continent and modernise Ghana’s immigration system.

“Effective today, all holders of African passports travelling to Ghana for business or tourism will apply for visas via the new online e-visa platform, and they will pay no visa fee,” he stated.

According to the President, the electronic visa system will enable travellers from around the world to apply for visas online without having to visit embassies or consulates in person.

He explained that applicants would be able to upload supporting documents electronically, make secure digital payments and receive travel authorisation through email or mobile phones.

“The electronic visa system, or e-visa, will allow travellers from all around the world to apply for visas online. They would upload the supporting documents electronically, make their secure digital payments, and receive travel authorisation in their emails or on their phones,” he added.

President Mahama said the initiative forms part of broader government efforts to modernise Ghana’s immigration processes, improve service delivery for international travellers and position the country as a more attractive destination for tourism, business and investment.
