Ghana Thermal Power Ltd., the special purpose vehicle established by government to implement the 1,200MW thermal power initiative, is progressing steadily, with key preparatory and implementation works advancing on schedule.
The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor in an engagement with the Thermal Power Limited expressed satisfaction with the level of progress achieved so far.
According to him, the project is a critical part of government’s broader strategy to strengthen Ghana’s power generation capacity and ensure long-term energy security.
“The progress we are seeing is encouraging. It shows that we are firmly on course to deliver additional reliable generation capacity to support both households and industry,” the Minister said.
He added that the initiative is expected to play a transformative role in stabilising the power sector and supporting economic growth.
“This project is not just about adding megawatts; it is about building a resilient energy system that can power Ghana’s development agenda,” he noted.
Mr. Jinapor noted that ongoing works which include key preparatory activities necessary are underway to ensure smooth execution of the thermal power expansion programme.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to increasing installed generation capacity and maintaining stable electricity supply.
