An elderly woman has died after being struck by a moving vehicle while attempting to cross the George W. Bush Highway near the Lapaz–Tema Station in Accra.
The fatal incident reportedly occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 29, and has renewed concerns over persistent disregard for the use of the pedestrian footbridge in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased, who was known in the area for collecting used sachet water, attempted to cross the busy highway despite the availability of a nearby footbridge.
Police officers later arrived at the scene and conveyed the body to the morgue pending further investigations.
The driver involved in the incident has been instructed to report to the Lapaz Police Station.
