The Ghana Education Service has announced the official academic calendar for the 2026/2027 school year, with all basic schools across the country expected to resume classes on September 8, 2026.

The approved calendar, which applies to Kindergarten, Primary and Junior High Schools, was contained in a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations of the GES, Daniel Fenyi.

According to the schedule, the first academic term will begin on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and end on Thursday, December 17, 2026. A two-day mid-term break has been scheduled for November 5 and 6.

Students will then proceed on vacation from December 18, 2026, to January 4, 2027, before returning for the second term on January 5, 2027.

The second term is expected to end on March 25, 2027, after which schools will break from March 26 to April 19, 2027.

GES further indicated that the third term will commence on April 20, 2027, and conclude on July 22, 2027, officially bringing the academic year to a close.

The Service also announced that the 2027 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be conducted from May 5 to May 12, 2027.

GES urged the observation of all public holidays captured within the academic year, while the mandatory mid-term break policy will remain in force throughout the three terms.

The Service has therefore urged heads of schools, teachers, parents and guardians to familiarise themselves with the calendar and make the necessary preparations ahead of the new academic year.
