The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has released the Agona West Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Essendoh, after he was arrested over allegations of false publication.

Essendoh was picked up following a social media post in which he claimed that “dumsor”—a local term used to describe intermittent power outages—had returned.

The post also featured a photograph of a billboard bearing the President’s image alongside the inscription referenced in the publication.

His arrest triggered concerns within the NPP leadership earlier in the day, with party officials questioning the legality of the detention and expressing concern over his whereabouts.

Party executives said initial attempts to locate him were unsuccessful after visits to the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters and National Security offices.

It was later confirmed that Essendoh had been held at the BNI offices at Kawukudi since his arrest.

Following engagements and the fulfilment of bail conditions, he was subsequently released pending further investigations into the matter.

The case is expected to remain under review as authorities continue inquiries into the alleged publication.
