The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested 10 suspected land guards for their alleged involvement in providing security for some kingmakers who were planning the installation of a chief at Adambrobe in the Akuapem South Municipality on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
The arrests were carried out during a joint regional security operation involving the Police, Military, and the Aburi District Patrol. The team was deployed to the area to maintain law and order amid heightened chieftaincy tensions.
During the operation, security personnel retrieved five pump-action rifles, 23 live cartridges, one taser, six mobile phones, and a piece of body armour.
Two vehicles were also impounded, including an unregistered Ford pick-up truck and a Toyota Corolla with registration number GE 2560-19.
In a related development, an additional suspect, identified as Douglas Amoako Danquah, was arrested while being carried in a procession within the township. He was apprehended by a reinforcement team from the Regional Operations, Counter Terrorism Unit, and Formed Police Units drawn from Akosombo, Odumase Krobo, Osiem, Kukurantumi, and Akropong.
Briefing the media at the Regional Police Headquarters in Koforidua, the Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, ACP Richard Appiah, disclosed that the suspects were dressed in Ghana Immigration Service camouflage uniforms and were armed with pump-action guns.
He further revealed that the suspects have been identified as notorious land guards who have been terrorising farmers and landowners in the Akuapem South Municipality.
According to ACP Appiah, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are not personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service. He added that the pump-action rifles retrieved have not been registered, and efforts are underway to trace their source.
