Ghana’s sprinters Abdul-Raheed Saminu and Joseph Paul Amoah have booked their places in the men’s 100m final at the ongoing 24th African Senior Athletics Championships at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra.

Saminu impressed on home soil after winning Heat 2 to secure automatic qualification, while Amoah also produced a strong run, finishing first in Heat 3 in a time of 10.37 seconds.

However, it was a disappointing outing for Ghana’s Edwin Gadayi, who failed to advance after placing last in Heat 2, which was won by Saminu.

The duo’s qualification continues Ghana’s strong presence in the sprint events as the host nation targets more medals at the continental competition.

The men’s 100m final is expected to be one of the highlights of the championships, with both Saminu and Amoah hoping to capitalise on home support at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
