A driver captured in a viral video driving dangerously on the Kumasi–Accra highway has been convicted by the La Motor Court.

The convict, Agyarko Richard, who was behind the wheel of a Toyota Voxy with registration number EN 551-26, was arrested following investigations by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) after the footage circulated widely on social media.

He was charged with multiple offences, including driving on the wrong side of the road, causing obstruction, endangering other road users, and careless and inconsiderate driving under the Road Traffic Act and Regulations.

Appearing before Her Worship Adwoa Sakyi Asumadu on May 8, 2026, Agyarko Richard pleaded guilty to all charges and was convicted on his own plea.

The court fined him 260 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢3,120, in default of which he will serve 15 days imprisonment with hard labour. He was also sentenced to an additional two months imprisonment with hard labour.

In a post on Facebook, the Ghana Police Service noted that the outcome reflects its commitment to enforcing road traffic laws and deterring reckless behaviour on the roads.

It has urged motorists to drive responsibly, warning that dangerous and inconsiderate driving continues to endanger lives across the country.
